Because Bridges’ on-site group volunteer opportunities are limited, we typically reserve these opportunities for only our community and corporate donors.

If you’d like to become a community or corporate donor, please contact Christina Armstrong, Chief Philanthropic Partnerships Officer, at or 703-525-7177 x127.

If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Celeste McKenzie at

Here are other ways groups can get involved to support Bridges to Independence:

We rely on the generosity of donors to keep our pantry stocked for the families staying in our Sullivan House emergency shelter. Organizing a food or supply drive is as easy as making an announcement, collecting the items, and dropping them off at the shelter. We are always in need of nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, diapers, paper products, toiletries, and SmarTrip cards. Items can also be purchased online via our Amazon Wish List. Please email if you are interested in hosting a food drive.

Organize an event to benefit Bridges and invite your friends and members of the community. Ideas include an alternative giving fair, paper shredding event, rummage sale, or holiday party.

Volunteer Spotlight

Mary Adams
"As she retires, it is with hearts full of gratitude that Bridges acknowledges Mary Adams for her over twenty years of service as Honorary Member and Corresponding Secretary of our Board of Directors.  Through her two plus decades of service (she served under all three Executive Directors), Mary crafted thousands of donor thank you notes.  As a volunteer, she attended nearly all Bridges events from client graduations to children's parties to our appreciation Bar-B-Q, helping out wherever she could.  Mary leaves a legacy of dedication and service that will be long remembered at Bridges!"
