Small Business Mentoring

Our MicroBusiness Academy helps families explore, develop, and launch small scale business activities to supplement their household income. Volunteers are needed to guide and mentor participants as they attend a series of Saturday morning classes designed to give them the skill to conceptualize, plan, and launch a viable small scale business. We’re looking for volunteers with a range of skills.

Tutoring and Academic Achievement

Help children/youth living in our Sullivan House shelter, ages 6 -17 do better in school by fostering good study habits, being a homework helper, and providing one-on-one tutoring in math and reading. The process will improve our kids’ verbal skill and also build the confidence they need to be successful academically and socially.

Competing in the Today’s Marketplace

Help clients in our Sullivan House or Adopt-A-Family programs become more competitive in today’s job market. Volunteers are needed to teach English as a second language and basic computer skills, and prepare clients for GED examination or CNA certification, and/or launch a job search.

Setting up a Home of Their Own

Volunteers are regularly needed to help our families move from Sullivan House to an apartment of their own! You’ll be moving furniture out of storage units or from a donor’s home, and helping our families to settle in. If you have a truck or a van, even better!

Time for a Break?

Monthly Bingo Night
"Sometimes girls just want to have fun – and Bingo Nite fills the bill.  Once a month, everybody can join in for good times, games, and prizes galore. Other activities, such as our regular sewing classes, may be a little more structured, but they give everybody a social break along with a new skill. Who knows? Some entrepreneurial spirit may “sew up” a money-making venture."
