Bridges to Independence extends its sincere congratulations to Caryn Saunders, our Volunteer of the Year for 2025. We express our gratitude to Caryn for her exceptional dedication to our Children’s program.
During a Q&A session with a staff member regarding her volunteer involvement, Caryn shared her experiences and her passion for serving others.
Q. What motivated you to look for volunteer opportunities with our organization?
A. I have been an elementary educator for 17 years. I’ve had many students over the years who have experienced homelessness and financial hardships. As a native of South Arlington, I wanted to give to an area that helps me reconnect to my own roots and an organization that supports families to create a brighter future.
Q. What aspects of our mission resonate with you the most?
A. I believe exposing children to culture, arts, venues, careers, real-world topics etc. helps to develop their interests and broadens their prospects for the future. The Thrive & Shine Summer Camp gave children an opportunity to experience activities and places in a fun and memorable way. The children were excited to try new things and continued to reflect on all their new experiences throughout the camp.
Q. What impact do you hope to make through your volunteer work?:
A.When I work with children, my goal is always to be present and encourage them as they learn and grow. I want children to feel seen, heard, and valued. I believe this kind of support from caring individuals, like myself, produces youth and young adults who want to learn, develop their skills and talents and continually seek opportunities to “thrive & shine”.

Bridges to Independence thanks Caryn for her support for our mission and community service !!!!
