Providing critical support to families as they move from emergency shelter to permanent housing.

Bridges to Independence’s Adopt-A-Family Fund provides individuals and families experiencing homelessness with the foundation to rebuild their lives. Our Adopt-A-Family Fund provides the necessities to establish a home and addresses major barriers that would otherwise prevent families from maintaining their home should a crisis arise. Donating to the Adopt-A-Family Fund is a unique opportunity to help your neighbors find independence and remain self-sufficient.

Government funding for Bridges’ Rapid Re-Housing Program is limited to rental assistance and supportive services only. After experiencing homelessness, most of our clients have lost everything. Over the years, we have come to learn that while government funding is extremely important, it is not enough. In order for people to maintain a safe and stable home environment, they need a better foundation to their new beginning. Therefore, we created the Adopt-a-Family Fund to ensure that people leaving the shelter will not only be able to move into a new home, but are able to maintain stability for the long-term without becoming homeless again.

The Adopt-A-Family Fund provides the following for a family moving out of the shelter and into a home of their own:

  • A homecoming kit for their new apartment: The homecoming kit contains all the items needed to make a new apartment live-in ready, including food, cookware, toiletries, and other basic household supplies.
  • An emergency fund: Crises arise on a regular basis for our families who are trying to become self-sufficient. The emergency fund covers expenses that are unavailable through our community partners and include dental, vision, clothing allowance, rental unit repairs, legal services, and document fees.
  • Transportation and/or childcare: Two of the biggest barriers to obtaining gainful employment for our clients are transportation and/or childcare. SmarTrip cards, auto maintenance/repairs and money for childcare will improve their chances of securing and maintaining employment.

The Adopt-A-Family Fund is supported by individuals, faith communities, civic, and corporate donors.

Donation Levels:

Sponsor a Family – $2,500

Your gift of $2,500 will help provide all the essentials to a family in need. With this special giving level, you’ll be paired with a current client family and receive regular updates on their progress through the Bridges to Independence program.

You’ll also be invited and recognized at our annual Client Graduation and Alumni Homecoming Ceremony – where families who have completed our Rapid Re-Housing program are honored. You will also be recognized as an Adopt-A-Family sponsor on our website.

Note: the $2,500 contribution can be made in installments or shared among donors.

A Gift of Any Amount

Your gift of any amount can be designated to the Adopt-A-Family Fund and will go directly toward helping an individual or family as they establish a home of their own.
